THE Far North Coast under-16 rugby union teams were crowned King of the Road champions on the Gold Coast.

It is one of the biggest junior carnivals in Queensland and attracts hundreds of competitors from across the state.
FNC had to borrow jerseys and equipment just to play in the competition and went on to win an emotionally charged final against Helensvale.
"We had every excuse not to be there or play well," coach Andrew Fraser said.
"There were parents and players in tears after the final because it's been such a tough couple of weeks back home.

"We had families from Lismore who have had nothing of late, so it was really pleasing for them to be there to celebrate.
"It's nice for kids to be playing rugby when there hasn't been any."
They had wins over Caloundra and avenged a two point loss over Helensvale in the early rounds after they advanced to the final.
Five-eighth Oscar Godwin kicked a late penalty goal to win 17-14.
Godwin was a standout along with centre Te Ira Rudolph and halfback Jai Armstrong.
"We were probably conceding about 10-15kg per player in the forward pack against Helensvale," Fraser said.
"A lot of these teams were club sides who play together every week so we gave a really good account of ourselves."
The FNC under-15 team also made the final while the under-13 and under-14s finished in the top four.
